STEP 1

Retain a Parole Attorney

To maximize your chances for release, it is best to retain an attorney at least 2 months before the next parole review date. The earlier the better. We can work on a quicker timeline, if necessary, but retaining an attorney will give you the best chance to come home.

You can find out when your next parole review date is going to be at this link. Please note that the date listed online is JUST A TENTATIVE DATE. The Texas Parole Board works cases on a rolling basis. The actual date may not be set until you get closer to your review date.

STEP 2

Enter Parole Review

You will come into the parole review process anywhere between 4 to 6 months before the review date listed online. Once we are retained, we notify the board that we are representing you. We will request that the parole board contact us as soon as they are ready to schedule your hearing.

STEP 3

Submit Parole Packet Documents

Once we are retained, we will ask that you send us your personal statement, completed questionnaire, support letters from your friends and family, certificates, diplomas, and any additional documents for us to include in your parole packet.

STEP 4

IPO Interview

As you get closer to your hearing date, you will be interviewed by an Institution Parole Officer (IPO) at your unit. THIS IS NOT THE PAROLE HEARING. The IPO works with the parole board to gather information to include in your file, but they are not a member of the parole board. Your interview with the IPO will be a one-on-one interview. We are not notified of the interview and are not entitled to be there. But we will prepare
you for the interview in advance.

Please note, the IPO is working with an incomplete file and may give you false information. Oftentimes, their file does not list of whether there is an attorney on record, and they may give you the wrong information such as saying there is no attorney listed, or that you need to turn in all of your parole paperwork within 10 days. THIS IS NOT ACCURATE AND DOES NOT APPLY TO YOU. It mostly applies to inmates who do
not have an attorney.

We understand that hearing such news can cause a great deal of anxiety for our clients. That is why we’ve prepared this step-by-step breakdown of the parole review process and given it to you in advance, so that you may be prepared.

STEP 5

Hearing is Scheduled

After the IPO has interviewed you, they will take their report to your regional office of Texas Parole Board. The board will then contact us to schedule your parole hearing.

STEP 6

Parole Hearing

Once we are contacted by the board to schedule your hearing, we will reach out to your family-contact and let them know of your hearing date. We will also prepare them to participate in the hearing. We will then submit your parole packet to the board and represent you at your parole hearing.

STEP 7

Parole Board Decision

Results will be posted online anywhere from 3 to 30 days. We will not be notified of the results directly. We ask that you monitor the website daily.
